Stage Aurora Finds New Home at the Ritz

is the new home for Jacksonville’s longest running African-American production company, Stage Aurora Theatrical Company. Stage Aurora has produced over 100 theatrical productions including Pulitzer Prize Winners Driving Miss Daisy, To Kill A Mockingbird, Fences, and The Piano Lesson, and Tony Award Winners The Color Purple and A Raisin in the Sun. Other classics include Crowns, Miss Ever’s Boys, Mama I Want to Sing, Disney’s High School Musical, and a community favorite, Darryl Reuben Hall’s Frat House. THEATRE REVIEW: “THE MOUNTAINTOP”

 presented a three day run February 6-8 of “” at their performance hall in  in Jacksonville. The play was written by Memphis resident  in 2009. It made an interesting journey on its way to a Broadway 2011  opening starring  Samuel Jackson and Angela Bassett. It originally opened at a London England fringe theatre and was such a hit there and won the British equivalent of a Tony, The Olivier Award in 2010. The play is set in the modest  in Memphis Tennessee. It is the evening of April 3rd l968, the day before was shot on the motel’s balcony.       …
