‘Tis better to give than to receive, and there’s no shortage of ways to give back this holiday season. Many charitable organizations, civic groups, and individuals throughout the city open their doors and their hearts to those in need of a helping hand, a warm meal, a new coat, or toy donations to bring Christmas cheer to the less fortunate. This year, the currently has 66 children in the shelter and the goal is for each child to receive three presents on Christmas morning. In recognition of National Feed the Homeless Day, Hemming Park hosted Jacksonville’s social service partners for an event in the park on Tuesday, December 17 from 10:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. This will be a yearly event highlighting the social services available to those in need in Jacksonville. All invited organizations have the mission to eradicate homelessness from Jacksonville, and the gathering shows a local, unified face in combatting this national social issue.
