Shadowlands: A Dual Critics Review opened the second play of its 100th season with Shadowlands by William Nicholson on January 10, 2019, which will remain on stage through January 26. This true story, new to our local stages, is both a romantic drama and an exploration of challenging theological issues. A DUAL CRITICS REVIEW: Something Rotten at Theatre Jacksonville Theatre Jacksonville officially opened on November 1, 2019 with the North Florida premier of what you will find is the funniest musical ever seen on this historic stage, “Something Rotten.” At least that was our reaction which, judging from the laughter and thunderous applause we heard, was also shared by the full-house audience on opening night. “Something Rotten” remains on stage through November 17th. THEATRE JACKSONVILLE’S 99TH SEASON AWARDS FOR VOLUNTEERS On Sunday August 19, 2019, held its annual celebration honoring volunteers from the 2018 – 2019 season. The celebration was held at the theatre, and combined a membership meeting with the annual awards ceremony. President presided, beginning with a brief recap of the past season. He had good news to report. The theatre once again finished in the black. Local residents contributed a total of 17,000 volunteer hours during the season. Downtown Jacksonville’s The 5 & Dime Theatre went back to 1970 – almost five decades ago – to present Stephen Sondheim’s musical “Company,” which opened on April 20th, 2018. Remarkably, this Tony Award winner is just as relevant today as when it first opened on Broadway.
