Jacksonville University College of Fine Arts Review A Dual Critics Review by Dick Kerekes & Leisla Sansom presented a four-performance run of “,” the 1978 Tony Award winning musical .  The musical has an interesting history in Jacksonville. When the roadshow arrived in the early 1980s, the management of the then Civic Auditorium refused to display the correct title on the billboard; instead, the display read “Now playing, The Best Little Chicken Ranch in Texas.” Later in the decade, it was a big hit at the Alhambra Dinner Theatre, with fifty or more sold-out performances. The name for the awards was chosen many years ago, back when the theatre was located just one block from the ocean, where pelicans were frequent visitors. Players moved into its current expanded home in 1999 and has been ever-changing; delighting theatre-goers with facility upgrades year after year. JACKSONVILLE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS presented the North Florida premier of the musical “Weird Romance” during a three-day run from November 6 – 8, 2015 at the on the school’s Arlington campus. “” certainly has an appropriate title and is described as two one-act musicals of speculative fiction. “RENT” Players By The Sea theatre review

 and The  present “,” the Tony and Pulitzer prize- winning musical by playwright Jonathan Larson. Larson died, tragically and unexpectedly, on the morning of the play’s first Off-Broadway preview performance in 1996. The play moved to Broadway in April, where it remained for a run of twelve years. The revival at Players opened on July 18th, 2014 and will be on stage until August 9th.
