What’s better than donuts? Mini-donuts! They’re smaller, so that means you eat more of them. Although they have been here for a year, the buzz in shows no signs of stopping, no doubt due in part to all their donuts being made-to-order hot. My favorite flavors are Strawberry Pop Tarts and Fruity Pebbles, but there are many flavors to choose from: Sweet Pete’s Sea Salt Caramel, Mint Chocolate Chip, S’mores, Maple Bacon, Strawberry Sprinkle, and Lemon Poppy to name a few. The demand has been so high that they moved a wall to make room for another prep table. Mini …

GastroFest 2018 happened last month at the beautiful Friendship Fountain in partnership with the Museum of Science & History! This year’s Judge’s Choice winners are: Candy Apple Cafe, Jax Diner, Sliders, Bread & Board, Black Sheep at Intuition, German Schnitzel Haus, Bold City Mobile Kitchen, Sunshine Grindz, Ibex Ethiopian Kitchen, Khloe’s Kitchen, and Orsay. The Hyatt has announced that they will be adding three restaurant concepts to open by late summer. COWFORD CHOPHOUSE OPENS We’ve been eagerly awaiting the opening of the for over two years, and it was worth the wait. Because of the historical nature of the building, which dates back to 1902, they’ve worked very hard to restore a lot of the architectural details (like the arched windows, exterior bricks, and metal cornice). The lead architect and designer for the Cowford Chophouse was Design Cooperative (DCOOP) and Danis Construction served as the contractor. The old pine in the building was repurposed throughout the building, and you’ll see the beautiful wood in the community tables. While parking after dark …

While barrel-aging has established itself as a tried and true way for brewers to experiment in the brewery, sour beers are really having a moment right now. In recent years, many breweries across the state have expanded to include sour programs, which is no small feat considering the need to invest in isolated systems that guard against cross-contamination. But the people are demanding the funky stuff, and Florida brewers are delivering! For the second year in a row, Jacksonville will play host to the Florida Brewers Guild Barrel-Aged, Sour, and Cider Festival, a celebration of the biggest, wildest beers brewed …

If you haven’t been paying attention for the past seven years, you might not realize just how diverse Jacksonville’s craft brew scene has become. From the beaches to Orange Park, we’ve got a flavor profile for every palate, from gloriously hoppy to incredibly drinkable malts and lagers. Most of our brewers practice their art at the or in , with a few outliers such as in Baymeadows and in , but it looks like the scene is shifting in a big way towards . Last year, opened a production facility near Downtown, and they’re working to get permitting set for …

has gathered some of the finest in small farm suppliers, curating the choicest meat and produce in the Southern U.S. Many of the Kitchen’s farms are outside the 100 mile radius that most locavores use to define local, but they’re still ecologically friendly because they’re supporting the small farms. Chef has stuck to the Southeast, mainly in Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and the Carolinas, so any food you’re eating has likely travelled fewer miles (and thus wasted less fossil fuel) than a restaurant that uses a big box retailer for everything. Not all of Kitchen’s suppliers are outside the radius. Locally, …

Slow Food First Coast Slow Food was founded to slow us all down and make us think about what we eat, versus driving to the nearest fast food venue and continuing to fast-track everything we do in life. People increase their understanding of the importance of caring about where food comes from, who makes it, and how it’s made. The movement wants you to slow down and taste the food! You will learn how the slow food members produce …
