Jacksonville's Memorial Day Ceremony

8 a.m. Monday, May 29

In Jacksonville alone, 50,000 active military personnel are employed from Naval Station Mayport to NAS Jax, helping our wonderful city thrive and continue to be diverse and unique. This fact makes Memorial Day even more important to our community. This year, you can memorialize hometown heroes on East Adams Street in Downtown Jacksonville in front of the Veterans Memorial Wall. You might even meet Mayor Lenny Curry in the flag line, honoring local fallen heroes. Celebrating veterans is a great reason to get up before 8 a.m.

K9s For Warriors Paws 4 Our Vets 5K

8 a.m. Monday, May 29

Getting your morning run in before you crack open the good ol' 12-pack is important, even on Memorial Day. Get up early and sweat with a quick 5K run that benefits veterans suffering from PTSD. You'll finish in plenty of time to hit the backyard barbecue with your family. K9s For Warriors Paws 4 Our Vets 5K is the perfect opportunity to get your exercise in while showing off that national pride. For the less-ambitious, there's a one-mile fun run, so even if you haven't exercised in months (guilty), you can still be included in the festivities.
