Senator Bean didn't even vote yes to add "medically accurate" to the wording. Why? That's outrageous!
As I listened to the committee meeting, tears came to my eyes as I heard the men yell out NO and the women call out YES to amendments that would protect vulnerable females of child bearing age. But the men dominated the committee so the amendments failed.
Sent to Senator Bean earlier:
Please vote no on SB 404 in the committee meeting this morning. Notification, which is already the law, is more than enough. This bill isn't needed and could be harmful to vulnerable girls.
If you can't bring yourself to vote NO on SB 404, then please at least vote yes on these amendments:
*771420 -change the definition of the minors of child bearing age to which this bill applies from "under 18" to "under 16"
*395188 -allows for waivers when the abortion is a medical emergency per the doctor's judgement
*302010 -seeks to preserve privacy of the minor
*894624 -allows more flexibility in choosing the court that will grant the waiver
*146866 -acknowledges that the court must act with haste because this medical procedure gets riskier when postponed
*416354 Better defines what this means: "If the court finds, by clear and convincing evidence, that the minor is sufficiently mature..."
*139926 or 745328 Add the wording "medically accurate" when describing the information to be given to the minor
*884430 Funds the cost of this bill so assistance will be available to vulnerable girls
