Summertime is fun time and last weekend The Alhambra Theatre & Dining opened the magic musical Cinderella by Rodgers and Hammerstein, a special treat for all ages. Summertime is also the time for temperatures in the nineties, but your family can enjoy two great hours of wonderful entertainment and dining in air-conditioned comfort while watching this ever-popular fairytale performed by an outstanding cast.
The musical follows the traditional story of the lovely young lady who has been relegated to a life of unceasing toil as a household drudge by her cruel stepmother and her two vain and malicious stepsisters, until that wonderful day when her Fairy Godmother enters her life, changes a pumpkin into a beautiful coach, changes white mice into horses, and dresses Cinderella in a gorgeous gown so she can go to the Prince’s ball. The rest of the story is one that is probably known by everyone.
When you go to see this show, as you enter the lobby, you will have the opportunity to purchase your very own gold magic wand and colorful Cinderella T-shirts.
Artistic Director/choreographer Tod Booth obviously purchased a wand early, one with special casting talents built in, as he has certainly assembled an outstanding cast for this show.
We can’t remember how many shows the King (Tony Triano) and the Queen (Lisa Valdini) have done together over the past 25 years on the Alhambra stage, but they are absolutely hilarious and marvelous as the parents of the handsome Prince Charming. The Queen is worried about his finding a wife, the King is worried about financing the ball and buttoning his pants; a problem because he has gained so much weight since the last time he dressed in court costume.
Joe Chisholm is cast as the Prince, and he has the looks, the charm, and an excellent singing voice to complete the picture perfect prince package. Mr. Chisholm appeared in supporting roles at the Alhambra in 2001 and 2003, but we remember him for remarkable dramatic performances in local community theaters. He is currently finishing up his education at the prestigious University of Cincinnati College- Conservatory of Music.
