Big time Rugby comes to Jacksonville, again!

by Daniel Goncalves Jacksonville loves football. We love our Jag’s regardless of how good (or bad) they played this last season. It’s a hard hitting, action packed game, what’s not to love? Well, if you think that’s hard hitting, let me tell you that you ain’t seen nothing yet mate! From what I saw at Hodges Stadium at UNF on 1/17 it seems like Rugby is a cross between NFL and UFC! These guys are no holds barred with bloody noses and nasty take downs. They just get up and keep going. In my opinion, without breaks in between plays, …

by Tom Weppel SUPER BOWL 43 We’re down to the final two teams now. They will be heading to Tampa for Super Bowl XLIII. The upstart Arizona Cardinals and the SB veteran Pittsburgh Steelers will play on February 1st down on Dale Mabry. And so going into next week, we will begin a tremendous amount of media hype and coverage. Most of it will be certainly centered on the Steelers, as they are the more popular and well-known franchise. Let’s face it; the Cardinals are, for all intents, a virtually unknown to the majority of football fans. The Steelers, playing …

by Tom Weppel NFL PLAYOFFS And so here we are, with the AFC and NFC Championships ready to go. Certainly, these are NOT teams we expected to be still playing. The Cardinals, Eagles, and Ravens all went on the road last weekend and won their respective games to advance, while the Steelers were able to take care of their business at home. NFC In this game, the Eagles will head to Phoenix, of all places, to play the Cardinals in the NFC Title. These two teams played earlier this season, with Philly winning that one, 48-20. Not many expected the …

by Tom Weppel NFL PLAYOFFS This weekend we will see the top four teams in the NFL hosting games, all with a good shot at getting to the Championship game next weekend. Amazingly, all four contests will feature teams that played each other during the regular season. In the AFC, we’ll start with the Titans hosting the Ravens. Baltimore comes off a win over Miami. They are a good, strong, tough outfit. Their Defense certainly continues to play at the highest level. Their Offense has done a pretty good job, also. Rookie QB Joe Flacco has had an outstanding season. …

by Tom Weppel JAGUARS The Jaguars close out this subpar season on the road in Baltimore, when they take on the nasty Ravens. This game starts at 4 p.m., instead of the original time of 1 p.m. While the Jags want to finish the season on a winning note, their chances of doing so are quite slim. The Ravens are playing solid football, having come back from their win at Dallas and are looking at a playoff wild card spot with a win. For all intents, Jacksonville will be doing nothing more than playing out different players to get a …

by Tom Weppel JAGUARS I think its very possible the Jaguars could be without GM James Harris and DC Gregg Williams when the season is over. While Harris said in a T-U interview that all players are chosen by a group (as opposed to him making the final decision, like almost all GM’s in other franchises do), I still think his input has not been what the team needs in order to bring the right players to have as part of the team. Meanwhile, Williams simply hasn’t gotten much done at all. Whether its his inability to utilize the talent …

JAGUARS This weekend the Jaguars will be home to host the Green Bay Packers, a team that just lost their last two games at home while being right in the middle of their own Division race. Jacksonville has turned into a team that makes mistakes early and often to start a game, gets behind early, then faces a totally uphill battle trying to look halfway decent. In losing their last four contests (and six of their last seven), the Jags have played quite poorly. Whether it’s on offense, where the passing game is atrocious, or on defense, where opposing teams …
