by Tom Weppel NCAA COLLEGE BASKETBALL This weekend you will see and hear about a ton of college basketball tournament games being played, all mostly by small or unknown schools that play in paltry Conferences. A number of Conference Tournaments will have an NCAA Tournament berth to play for. That’s where you get the schools you’ve never heard of that end up playing the first round of the tournament, only to be blown out by a major school. Only once in a blue moon will we see a small school pull off the major upset over a heavyweight. Don’t get …

by Tom Weppel NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE This weekend marks the opening of the Free Agency period in the NFL. It’s a wild and crazy period and it can be looked at in all sorts of ways, depending upon who you are. On the ‘Team’ side, it’s a time to go after some players they may have had their eye on for a while. Maybe a Head Coach or GM saw a player during this past season that they decided they wanted to have on their own roster. They knew this particular player was going to be available now during free …

by Tom Weppel MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL In any normal year, we would be talking about every team going to camp, and what change they have made to their rosters, all with the intention of being competitive for the upcoming baseball season. We would be talking about the niceties of Spring Training, and how so many Northerners are so very happy to get out of the fierce coldness that has gripped so any this Winter season. by Tom Weppel After a great Super Bowl, we now move into February. We’re two weeks away from the Daytona 500, and the start of MLB Spring Training. As usual, there are all kinds of issues and happenings that highlight the sports world. In the past month or so, we’ve heard about all kinds of coaching changes, on a number of levels. …

Big time Rugby comes to Jacksonville, again!

by Daniel Goncalves Jacksonville loves football. We love our Jag’s regardless of how good (or bad) they played this last season. It’s a hard hitting, action packed game, what’s not to love? Well, if you think that’s hard hitting, let me tell you that you ain’t seen nothing yet mate! From what I saw at Hodges Stadium at UNF on 1/17 it seems like Rugby is a cross between NFL and UFC! These guys are no holds barred with bloody noses and nasty take downs. They just get up and keep going. In my opinion, without breaks in between plays, …

by Tom Weppel SUPER BOWL 43 We’re down to the final two teams now. They will be heading to Tampa for Super Bowl XLIII. The upstart Arizona Cardinals and the SB veteran Pittsburgh Steelers will play on February 1st down on Dale Mabry. And so going into next week, we will begin a tremendous amount of media hype and coverage. Most of it will be certainly centered on the Steelers, as they are the more popular and well-known franchise. Let’s face it; the Cardinals are, for all intents, a virtually unknown to the majority of football fans. The Steelers, playing …
