GOOD ACTORS = GOOD MOVIE?…not

by D Otoni Why do really good actors sometime sometimes make really bad movies? Robin Williams flopped with “Popeye” and Dustin Hoffman teamed with stellar costar Warren Beatty in the disappointing “Dick Tracy”. Well, now you can mark one down for Michael Douglas with “Solitary Man”, a project directed by Brian Koppleman and David Levien who penned “Oceans 13”. This movie lacks any social redeeming factors, but sports a stellar cast of fantastic actors like Susan Sarandon, Danny DeVito, Jesse Eisenberg, Jenna Fischer, and relative newcomer Imogen Poots, playing Mary-Louise Parker’s daughter. The only thing this film has more of …

Eclipse: Twilight Saga

by Kellie Abrahamson As a nearly 30 year old mom of two I’m hardly the target demo for Stephanie Meyer’s vampire romance saga Twilight. But just before the first film was released I found myself cracking open a borrowed copy of the first novel and didn’t put it down until I’d read it from cover to cover. The Twilight books are like crack and I am a slave to my addiction. Having confessed that, I will say that thus far the film versions of Meyer’s work have been hit or miss with me- hated Twilight, loved New Moon. The latest …

EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP movie review

by Madeleine Peck Wagner To answer the question that looms above all others: no, Banksy’s movie, Exit Through the Gift Shop, does not seem like a giant fake. In fact though we never see his face or hear his real voice, Exit does one really remarkable thing: it humanizes Banksy…and in the process skewers the street art, and, the art world. The premise of the film gets a typical topsy turvy Banksy treatment. In the beginning (in the mid-90s) Thierry Guetta is a ridiculous, semi-insane Frenchman living in Los Angeles, running a vintage clothing store (where he crows about marking …

TOY STORY 3 movie review

by Rick Grant After 2 Toy Story films the toys and story could have been stale and dated. In fact, my expectations were low going into the screening. Surprise! I was delighted by the now dated toys coming alive again with distinctive characters uttering funny dialogue. Stated differently, Toy Story 3 has not lost its luster and endearing characterizations. Of course, now it’s in 3D (whoop) which maybe added some excitement. However, the screenplay by director, Lee Unkrich, John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, and Darla K. Anders breathes new life into these adorable characters. The voice over cast stays true to …
