Words by Molly Britt A look into the annual Deck the Chairs exhibit in Jacksonville Beach As a Floridian, I can tell you, I know how it feels to hope for the dreamy white Christmas. Snow falling, lights up around the house, and hot chocolate without sweating while we drink it because our families needed the heat on in 69 degree weather. Well, we may not have the ideal winter weather, but we definitely have lots of fun lights and hot chocolate – we just ignore the heat. Some of Northeast Florida’s greatest Christmas lights exhibits happen here, and thankfully, …

Words by Ambar Ramirez As a little girl, I dreamed a knight in shining armor would save me from my one-story apartment and whisk me away on his white horse. It’s February, the month of romance. When chocolate hearts and teddy bears take over as the representation of love. Flowers are bought, and dinner plans are reserved. It’s no secret that the United States Healthcare System is broken. Despite the U.S. spending much more on healthcare than other high-income nations, the U.S. still scores poorly on health measurements like life expectancy, suicide rates and preventable hospital admissions, according to Harvard Health. The average cost of health insurance for an individual is a steep $450 a month and with less than 50% of businesses around the US providing healthcare to employees, many people are left to pull cash out of their own pockets, or worse, go without health insurance. Direct Primary Care is a more affordable option for …

When COVID-19 forced Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens to close its gates for two months, the nonprofit lost critical revenue during its busiest months. The Zoo is now asking for the community’s help to recover through the ZOO-A-THON, which aims to raise $250,000 in donations by Sunday. “Many people are surprised to learn how expensive it is to maintain our day-to-day operations, even after we closed to the public on March 14. We still had to feed and care for our animals daily, as well as employ the dedicated staff who worked through our closure. We were closed during our busiest …

Suggestions for divorced dads to spend time with their kids in the summer of COVID including help for kids with disabilities. Many summertime activities like waterparks, movie theaters, bowling alleys, skating rinks and more are still reopening and navigating new social distancing guidelines.
