Hogan Street Mural Project

A new display is coming to downtown’s  for  on April 9th. The gallery on Hogan St. is the product of collaborative works of many local artists. Two murals to be unveiled for the festival include ‘Face to Face’ by  which will feature portraits of the gallery’s collaborative members and ‘Clean Water’ by , which promotes natural preservation in Jacksonville. The Southlight Gallery, since its inception in 2009, has sought to create a stage for local artists and foster cultural enrichment in Jacksonville. Tennesee Queer – film review

The film opens up with the infamous high school gym wall, where gossip spreads about homosexual students, and their subsequent gay bashing. A painful place. The film’s director, Mark Jones is a Tennessee native who spent many years working on LGBT parade committees, as well as making several films about the struggles of being gay in the South. Jones was actually inspired to make this film by a Memphis mayor who refused to speak in favor of the LGBT rights for city workers. Sebadoh at Jack Rabbits: Show Review

Perhaps  was the perfect venue for the show. It’s smaller size and lo-fi feel (and no sign outside the venue) seemed like exactly the kind of place that could have played twenty years ago. Lou Barlow interview with ‘the godfather’ of the DIY indie aesthetic

 is humble. Often times when interviewed, the interviewer mention Barlow’s status as indie rock royalty; a title which he often shrugs off. But Lou Barlow is an important figure, often named ‘the godfather’ of the DIY indie aesthetic. Between his work with , , ,  as well as his own solo records, Barlow has pioneered some of the most influential music and recording techniques. Stephen Malkmus of Pavement is also credited with bolstering the importance and popularity of lo-fi recordings. Malkmus and Barlow could probably be considered contemporaries.
