In: making lists of what’s in and out.

Out: Comparing your lifestyle to others’.

The buzzing trend on TikTok these days is people’s lists of what’s “In and Out” for the year ahead. It’s more than predicting trends, fashion statements or pop culture (although it can be). It’s also about determining the habits and hobbies you want to practice or leave behind; ways you want to carry yourself and ways you’re outgrowing. The beauty in them is they are curated to the individual, so what may be “in” for one, may be completely ‘out’ for the other. They can be silly, serious, completely random or intentional.

This year, we predict, will be the year of autonomy. In: recognizing that your lifestyle and happiness is completely separate from your best friend or complete stranger. That’s what is so lovely about these lists — seeing other people’s priorities but understanding they are tailored to the individual. Making this list helps you pinpoint what does and doesn’t matter to you this year.

That being said, here are the Folio team’s Ins and Outs for 2024.

Mallory

In: Doing whatever the f*ck you want; deleting social media for periods of time; crosswords; speaking up for yourself; snacking; sitting in discomfort/boredom; reading/writing/sitting outside; being obsessed with your cat to the point it’s very annoying; being basic; saying yes

Out: Being mean to yourself; saying sorry excessively; nonconstructive comparison; having a messy room; overconsumption/impulse buying; measuring success and happiness with accomplishments; doomscrolling

Amiyah

In: God; HEAVIER metal (let’s really get into the filth); sitting in nature doodling for hours; smiling at strangers more often; eating alone in public; journaling; hippie mom core (current wardrobe but let’s take it up a notch); raves; having hour-long conversations with strangers and never seeing them again

Out: Experiencing FOMO (you don’t have to go to everything); worrying about what other people are doing to their bodies; not being empathetic (like have a heart?); judging people’s outfits (y’all are some haters and insecure); drunk cigs (RIP); vaping after randoms (that’s nasty… come on y’all).

Kelila

In:  Being more proactive about my life; having more moments of happiness; kindness/generosity; healthy habits; letting go of things that no longer serve me; graduating/elevating in life; trying new things

Out: Overthinking/overgeneralizing; moving out of emotion and not wisdom; people who don’t care about the world

Briana

Ins: Listening to my mind and body; lip gloss; being present; spending time outside and appreciating nature; cooking; movie nights; celebrating others success; girl besties; going to church; setting boundaries for myself; Diet Coke; figuring out my future

Outs: Comparison/jealousy; gossip/drama; oversharing; gluten and dairy; procrastination; talking poorly about myself or others; not speaking up for myself; settling; spending too much time on my phone; F boys; one-sided relationships; people and situations that no longer serve me

Ambar

Ins: Spending time outdoors; acceptance; individuality but in the same sense finding community; girls nights out; cashews; book clubs; focus on sustainability; buying things that will last me years instead of weeks; bubble baths and candles

Outs: People pleasing; rushing art; fast fashion; negative perceptions; excuses; regrets; overhead lighting

Carmen

Ins: Reading the smuttiest of romantasy books; Fireball shots; Not being afraid to bite back; Sticking up for yourself and your friends; finding happiness within ourselves

Outs: Being nice to people who do not deserve it; Pushovers; Needing to be in a relationship; Wasting our brain away watching TV for hours or scrolling mindlessly on social media; Brain rot; Last but certainly not least: Snapchat. Its 2024. Grow up. Send your nudes over IMessage like a man.

Dear Dumbs, Boy, do I have something juicy for you two. My husband and I live in a really cool neighborhood. We’ve lived here for 15 years. About a year ago our next door neighbor sold his home. He sold it to a single woman. She’s very attractive and professional.
