Combined Minds – The girls see a psychic 

Carmen: Let me start by saying I was a bit skeptical of this. It is hard for me to put my blind faith into something I truly do not understand. Still, during my reading, there were just so many specificities mentioned that I had no other choice but to fully believe every single thing Ruth Elder told me. 

Ambar: Let’s set the scene. I was severely hungover, and Carmen just got back from a weekend trip of over-spending and over-drinking. Nonetheless, we made our way over to the Portal, Midnight Sun’s dedicated space for psychics, tarot readings and other spiritual healing activities. And as soon as we walked into the incense-filled room I felt my hangover dissipate and a sense of peace.  

Carmen: One of us had to be the guinea pig, and it had to be me. Great. After racking my brain for a whole two minutes, I came up with the perfect question (I’m sorry, Ryan): Am I in the right relationship? But, she said, that was too broad of a question, so she sat me down and we went over the specific sub-questions that I should also be asking, i.e. who am I with him, who would I be without him and vice versa. Needless to say, questions were answered, but new questions arose and I didn’t have the heart to ask them. 

Ambar: Before Ruth starts shuffling and pulling cards, she rings a little bell to channel our spirit guides. And one thing about spirit guides is they have a lot to say and aren’t afraid to hold back. As they should. 

Carmen: Before she even pulled a card, I guess my spirit guides had a lot they wanted to say. My guides told me that I already knew the answer to my question, but I just needed that energy push to solidify it. They also said I was a bit bossy, but that’s neither here nor there. The first card pulled was Page of Wands — reversed (every card pulled was reversed). The Page of Wands reversed suggests that you can feel the stirrings of something new emerging within you, but you don’t know how to turn it into action. That was the catalyst that set my very, very hefty reading into place.

Ambar: Once Carmen was finished with her intense, nail-biting reading, it was my turn. I went into this reading wanting to know if moving to New York City in the near future was a good decision. Not as scary as a relationship reading, but still nerve-wracking as you never want to hear that your dream doesn’t align with your purpose. Still, I went into it with an open mind and heart. 

Carmen: That would be such a shame, wouldn’t it? 

Ambar: Anyway, Ruth was about to ring the bell to tune in with my spirit guides, but, of course, Carmen’s guides were not finished and had one more question for her. 

Carmen: They wanted to know just how long I was going to sit on this information. Yet I’m the bossy one? 

Ambar: I wouldn’t expect anything less from her guides honestly. Once they were finished making sure Carmen heard what they had to say, they dipped and in came my guides. 

Carmen: Ambar’s guides were a lot nicer than mine. 

Ambar: They were very sweet, and if I could have seen them, I would’ve given them a kiss on the mouth.

Carmen: I would have shaken them. 

Ambar: Enough with the interruptions. You and your spirit guides are so alike. Anyway, after my guides quickly let me know that I was essentially on the right path and have a good track with luck, they noted how I am often hesitant. And if you know me at all, you know I don’t make decisions easily (or at all – Carmen.). Which is why I did the reading in the first place. I’d rather have someone else (aka a clarity reader), make the decision for me. 

Carmen: Essentially, Ambar is moving to New York City and I need to have a long talk with my boyfriend. 

Ambar: I call that a win-win situation if you ask me. 

Carmen: Mmm hmm … 

Ambar: If things don’t work out for Carmen and her relationship, she can move to New York with me. 

Carmen: Overall, it was an amazing experience. We gave Ruth very little information about us, and most of what she said was spot on (albeit, annoying to hear, but spot on.) She has been doing this for over 30 years and it shows. She made sure we were comfortable and understood exactly what each card meant.
