THEATRE JACKSONVILLE’S 99TH SEASON AWARDS FOR VOLUNTEERS

Ninety Nine Years of Volunteers at Theatre Jacksonville, Theatre Jacksonville 2019 Awards

On Sunday August 19, 2019, Theatre Jacksonville held its annual celebration honoring volunteers from the 2018 – 2019 season. The celebration was held at the theatre, and combined a membership meeting with the annual awards ceremony.

President David Paulk presided, beginning with a brief recap of the past season. He had good news to report. The theatre once again finished in the black. Local residents contributed a total of 17,000 volunteer hours during the season. The summer camp program for young theatre students was completely sold out; 200 kids participated. Additionally, RS&H, a national architecture, engineering, and consulting services firm headquartered in Jacksonville, donated ten scholarships to Theatre Jax students.

His remarks about Theatre Jax’s upcoming 100th season generated additional excitement and applause. The theatre has come a long way from its beginnings when a group of World War I soldiers staged the first play. To commemorate the theatre’s history and ensure its future, the theatre is in the process of creating a million-dollar endowment. They’ve started early; Season 100 doesn’t start until September, and they’ve already raised over 350,000 dollars.

He announced his term of office as President has ended; Kaissia Zinn, the current Vice President, will serve as President during the upcoming season. The election of new officials followed; new board members were unanimously voted in by the subscribers present. All the officials can expect an exciting (and demanding) term throughout the theatre’s celebratory year.

Food followed: the enthusiastic audience was treated to a wonderful selection of food and beverages by Anthony’s Gourmet Catering.

Awards were presented by Sarah Boone (Executive Director), Michelle Kindy (General Manager), and Ron Shreve (Educational Director).

Thanks go to the staff and all the volunteers for a great afternoon. And we are looking forward to the exuberant celebration of 100 years of excellence.
