As one of the seminal rock/pop music films of the 20th century, Pop is notable because it captures the finale of Jimi Hendrix’s set, as he broke his guitar, set it afire, seduced it and threw it to the crowd. It also shows The Mamas & The Papas, Simon & Garfunkel, Jefferson Airplane, The Who and the incomparable Otis Redding. And who doesn’t sing along with the “Feel Like I’m Fixin’ to Die Rag”? It’s an appropriate kick-off to Avant Arts music film series.
