Composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist-dramatist Oscar Hammerstein II, better known as simply Rodgers & Hammerstein, created some of the most memorable musicals of the 20th century, including The Sound of Music, South Pacific and Oklahoma! Their take on Cinderella was the only production the pair originally wrote in 1957 for TV. Cinderella hit the stage in 1958; since then, it’s been produced around the globe, proving that the classic “rags-to-riches” tale of a young woman’s journey from servitude to a new life as a princess, is truly timeless.
