Duets for Valentine’s Day

On February 12, join Jacksonville Dance Theatre at the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum (101 W State St) as they present their third annual “Duets for Valentine’s Day” concert. The dance company, founded only five years ago in 2012 to prevent “talent-flight,” has established a reputation for bringing exquisite contemporary dance to stages both in Jacksonville and across the country.

Billed as a “unique, exciting alternative to the typical dinner and a movie option,” couples will be captivated by the intimate and theatrical performances. “We were inspired by a Chicago-based dance company that does a similar evening of duets around Valentine’s Day. JDT has a lot of duets in company repertory, and we love to use this as an opportunity to feature them,” says Rebecca R. Levy, a co-founder of JDT and Professor of Dance at Florida State College at Jacksonville.

True to form, JDT will be upping their game this year and building upon the strengths of previous years’ shows. This year, the audience can expect a more experimental show than previous Valentine’s Day performances. “The venue is not a traditional proscenium stage, so we will be using the stage, the audience space, parts of the lobby, and the front steps all as performance areas,” Levy says.

Duets will be performed by 15 members of the critically acclaimed company. Choreographers include Rebecca R. Levy, Tiffany S. Santiero (Professor of Dance at Jacksonville University), Hillary Libman, Jennifer Walker, Samuel Hills III, and Katie McCaughan (Head of Episcopal School of Jacksonville’s Dance program). Additionally, JDT has commissioned new work from Dmitri Peskoy of Utah, JoAnna Ursal of Los Angeles, Kristen Sullivan of Jacksonville, and Breanna King of Jacksonville.

The concert begins at 7pm with beer and wine to be served throughout the performance. Post to Post Links II error: No post found with slug "https://www.eventbrite.com/e/jacksonville-dance-theatres-duets-for-valentines-day-tickets-30277246058"
