For the first time, The 5 & Dime is raising a curtain of its own. The five-year-old theatre company has just announced its new permanent home on East Adams Street in Downtown Jacksonville, adjacent to the former Chomp Chomp and Burro Bar locations. Of the theatre company’s new home, Managing Director Lee Hamby says, “we are extremely excited to fill a void in the Urban Core being a live theatre utilizing local talent from around Jacksonville and surrounding areas.”

“We are extremely excited to fill a void in the Urban Core being a live theatre utilizing local talent from around Jacksonville and surrounding areas.”

“Five and a half years ago, we began as a nomadic theatre company performing in many locations in the downtown and Riverside areas,” says Hamby. “Having a permanent home will help us provide an amazing audience and volunteer experience.” Theater ghosts, if you’re looking for a new home, The 5 & Dime is open for haunts.

To ring in the new performance space, the company is hosting a fundraising cabaret on January 20th and 21st at 8pm. The evenings of song will feature performances from Northeast Florida musical theatre dazzlers Isabella Martinez, Josh Waller, Peter Jackson, Amy Allen Farmer, Rodney Holmes, and others. Cindy Stillson will accompany the showstopping favorites on piano.

Tickets for the cabaret fundraiser cost $20 and are available through The 5 & Dime’s Eventbrite page. For more information, visit www.the5anddime.org. Those interested in assisting The 5 & Dime with the transition into their permanent performance space should also consider donating to the theatre company through their website.
