When I saw that four of the greatest pop bands from nineties would be coming to the St. Augustine Amphitheatre, my inner teen literally squealed out loud! I always knew that one day all of those TRL episodes and early morning Pop Up Video binges would pay off! 90’s kids dreams will come true as we finally get to see (and sing along loudly with) the pop superstars 98 Degrees, O-Town, Dream, and Ryan Cabrera!

The night will be full of excitement as these four iconic pop bands take us back to the era of infectious pop with performances of some of their most famous hits like 98 Degree’s “I Do (Cherish You)”, O-Town’s “All or Nothing”, Dream’s “He Loves U Not” and Ryan Cabrera’s “On the Way Down.”

O-Town

Paving the road to success by reaching the top 40 eight times, selling over 10 million records, recording a single with legend Stevie Wonder, and receiving a nomination for a Grammy, headliners 98 Degrees take the lead on this My2K tour. After having not been on the stage since 2013 with New Kids on The Block, and according to a previous interview, this tour was something that had been in the works for some time.

After being put together on the very first season of Making the Band, O-Town proved themselves successful after releasing two #1 singles “All or Nothing” and “Liquid Dreams” off of their self-titled debut album. Though the band took a slight hiatus, they came back in 2014 releasing a new LP titled “Lines & Circles.”

“He Loves U Not” off of the album “All A Dream” by the dynamic girl group of harmony Dream was an enormous triumph in 2000. They proved girl power exists by becoming the first all girl group to get a music video retired on TRL’s video playlist for their single “This Is Me.” They too took a small break from the spotlight, but recently announced that a new album is in the works.

The double platinum artist Ryan Cabrera is most known for his hit singles “On The Way Down” and “Shine On.” Though he continues writing and spending time in the studio recording chart topping music, His most recent endeavor is project Beyond the Sky, in which he is collaborating with other artists and singers to create new music.

So calling all you 90’s bubblegum pop devotees out there!! Dust off those 90’s dance moves learned from MTV music videos, prepare your best fangirl screams, and get ready for a trip down memory lane as we sing and dance along to the best of 90’s pop music culture.

A Date with the 90’s

When preparing for a date, most girls do the same thing. We pick out the perfect outfit while trying to keep our cool because we are giddy with excitement about what the night may have in store for us. The only difference between getting ready for a date and getting ready for a date with one of the best 90’s flashback experiences ever, was the temptation to attach my Tamagotchi pet to my mini backpack while rocking platform sneakers with knee highs to look like Alicia Silverstone in Clueless.

Kicking off date night was the talented and very handsome Ryan Cabrera. Let me just say, there guys that can’t rock a pink shirt without looking incredibly silly but, Ryan only steamed up the amphitheater making the air even hotter. The crowd when “Banana Sandwich” with him as he played new songs like “Whatever, Whatever” along with his most popular hits like “On The Way Down.”

Ryan then turned the stage over to the ladies of Dream opening with “This Is Me.” They strapped on their kick ass heels and performed favorites like “He Loves Me, He Loves You Not” and even a new song which they were extremely proud of, as they had written it themselves and was very close to their hearts.

The guys of O-Town were so entertaining! As soon as they took to the stage, fan girls rushed up as close as they could as they cried out the names of their favorite members! These guys had smooth moves while performing hits like “Liquid Dreams” and cheerfully serenaded us with “We Fit Together” and had to compete with the crowd as we all sang “Nothing At All” in unison.

And then, the moment we had all been waiting for… 98°! More like 1,098°! They were hotter than ever, hitting the stage in their matching camo pants & Kevlar vests. The crowd roared and sang along as they performed most of their hits like “Invisible Man,” “Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)” and even a whole 90’s medley including Blink 182, Britney Spears, NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, and brought all of the bands together to perform a fun performance “Party Like Its 1999” by Prince.

Don’t you worry, this date isn’t over yet! Nick Lachey shared a special moment with the fans as he performed his solo hit “What’s Left of Me.” Then, the group returned as they brought one lucky, Evelyn, fan to the stage. She was given a vail and stood as 98° got down on bended knee to serenade her to “I Do.” I won’t lie, I wanted to be Evelyn in that moment. The night came to an end as they thanked their fans with a sweet and heartfelt version of “It’s All Because Of You” as a photo montage of their favorite pictures with fans played on the screen behind them.

These bands definitely earned a goodnight kiss! Not only was the My2K Tour what I would call an epic date with a blast from the past but, it has certainly set the standards high for any future rendezvous with the past! Now comes the hard part, as we anxiously await that call for a second date!
