5 F(x) Ice Cream and Taiyaki

Tired of going to the grocery store and buying the same generic ice cream with a processed taste? Well, there is a local company here in Jacksonville named 5f(x) Ice Cream and Taiyaki where you can get your fix. What is 5f(x) you say? They produce the best kind of ice cream–homemade. Their ice cream is thicker, creamer and overall more delicious!

5f(x) was opened in March of 2012, originally named 3f(x) Ice Cream and Waffles. The company has four stores: two in Orlando and two in the Jacksonville area, at 9802 Baymeadows Rd #6 and at 10950 San Jose Blvd #13. A store is slated to open up in St. Augustine as well, as soon as they undergo their health inspection.

At one of their locations, you’ll get the experience of seeing homemade ice cream made right in front of you. First you pick your flavor of ice cream and a choice of milk. Then they pour it onto this humongous steel plate and use scrapers to mix the cream and the milk together to give the ice cream its shape. But before they scoop up the ice cream into a homemade waffle cone or cup of your choice, they mix in all your favorite toppings. I recommend trying the caramel ice cream with white and dark chocolate chips. It is simply scrumptious!

I went to the Baymeadows storefront. If you are not in a rush, then I suggest you sit down at one of the red tables or booths. Then you can get a good look at the walls, which have the best wallpaper I’ve ever seen, which is hundreds (or thousands) of celebrity autographs. And for your entertainment you can watch Korean, Chinese and Japanese boy bands, read the different customer punch cards or watch the 5f(x) employees do their magic.

Even if you are in a hurry, make sure you don’t forget to try a Taiyaki. These waffles shaped like fish, a classic Japanese street food, are stuffed with a filling of your choice. I recommend the Bavarian Cream or the Strawberry Cream, which are my personal favorites, although Red Bean is more traditional. They are served hot, and they are made to order just like their delicious ice cream. These sinfully good and addicting waffles are soft and crispy while the filling is hot and gooey.

They will also put cold compacts in your bag to keep your ice cream nice and cool until you get home; the Taiyaki definitely is a sweet treat that tastes good hot or cold. So, if you are looking for a cold or hot treat then 5f(x) Ice Cream and Taiyaki has you covered. My mouth is watering for one right now.

But don’t just take my word for it. Stop into a 5f(x) Ice cream and Taiyaki shop near you. Want more information? Then visit their website, www.5fxicecream.com, or find their store on Facebook. Just type in the store name and click on it. There you can find a store in your area, see the menu and store hours.
