SNL alum orgy “SLEEPING WITH OTHER PEOPLE”

Sleeping With Other People

I should preface this review by confessing that I am a HUGE Saturday Night’ Live fan. My opinion may be a little skewed because the film stars recent SNL alum Jason Sudeikis, and is co-produced by SNL Legend Will Ferrell. Directed by Leslye Headland. But honestly, I’d like ‘Sleeping With Other People’ (SWOP) even if the movie didn’t have a couple of SNL ties.

In ‘SWOP’ Jason Sudeikis plays Jake, a cheating womanizer who you just can’t help but like, because unlike most cheaters, he’s very upfront and honest about it. Early in the film, Jake loses his virginity with another virgin, Lainey (Allison Brie of ‘Community’). The moment is just a one-time thing for the both, and they go their separate ways. Fast forward a decade and their paths cross again, at a meeting for sex addicts.

Seems both Jake and Lainey have serious issues. Lainey’s issue is with relationships, and Jake’s is with monogamy. They decide to become friends, and help each other with their respective problems, until the right person comes along for each. As the movie progresses, Lainey struggles with feelings for her now-married college crush (Adam Scott), and Jake continues his promiscuous ways, while trying to win the love of a co-worker (Amanda Peet). All the while, you guessed it, Jake and Lainey fall in Love. I know… predictable, but it still works.

On the surface ‘SWOP’ is an edgy comedy with heart, but on a deeper level it’s a really sweet love story. The only problem I had with the movie is the language. I’m no prude mind ya… I loved ‘Goodfella’s’ and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’. I don’t have a problem at all with adult language, when it makes sense in a story. I just felt for ‘SWOP’, the language was a bit gratuitous, and I found myself kinda cringing when it was overused… and I was watching alone!!! Lol
