POWER DOWN: JACKSONVILLE DAY RESOURCE CENTER
Public safety is being touted as the biggest priority of the new Jacksonville city budget – prepared by the Mayor’s office and approved by city council on Monday. However, The Jacksonville Day Resource Center, a pilot program started in 2013 to offer downtown Jacksonville’s homeless population a place to shower, do laundry, and access to computers, as well as meet with social workers, was not. No money was included in the new budget and moves to divert funds from the recently boosted Jacksonville Journey to DRC were thwarted by the Mayor’s Chief Administrative Officer Sam Mousa. DRC will close on Oct. 1.
