These St. Augustine locals helped make distilling possible in Florida and started the largest distillery in the state. They built their sustainable business inside of a meticulously restored turn-of-the-century ice factory. Take the tour. You will learn the whole farm-to-glass story, and how Florida fit into the distilling world before prohibition (as well as the role of ice manufacturing in American cocktail culture). At the end of the tour you get a free sample of the product as well. History is on trend here.

Insider Tip: You can only buy 2 bottles a year directly from the distillery. Fortunately, right now they only have their vodka and their gin, so the choice isn’t too hard. But when their rum and bourbon is ready, it’ll be a tough call.

This cinematheque is also a cafe and draft house. They play an assortment of films ranging from art house to independent. Don’t expect to see a Terminator film here, but do check their listings for the rare, small-run films and art film events.

Lighthouse Park on Anastasia Island

St. Augustine has a lot of great parks and plenty to see, but few offer as many outdoor recreation activities as Anastasia. You will find beautiful natural beaches, hiking and biking trails through the old coquina quarries, and there is a little inlet off of Salt Run where you can rent a sailboard, kayak, paddleboard or a small catamaran by the hour to explore the waterways.

Insider Tip: The best use of Anastasia Park is to book one of their primitive campgrounds when a show you want to see is happening at the Amphitheatre. You can start your day at the beach, pre-game at your campsite with friends, then walk over to the back door of the Amphitheatre for the show, and only have to stumble into the woods out back afterwards. It’s a blast.
