LIVE MUSIC VENUES

Planet Sarbez, An Insider's Guide to St. Augustine

Planet Sarbez

Davis Shores on Anastasia Island

This venue features a variety of live local bands. They also have video games and apparel. It is an eclectic spot. They serve beer and wine, and they are very adamant about the quality of their grilled cheese sandwiches.

Shanghai Nobby’s

Davis Shores on Anastasia Island

Right across the street from Sarbez is St. Augustine’s punk rock bar, Nobby’s. Once upon a time this was a surly little sports bar, but the punks took it over, and now they have live music most nights. Touring bands and local bands alike stop in, and you never know what you will find. I’ve seen metal, punk, hip-hop, puppet shows–you name it. There is always a cover, so bring cash. They serve stiff drinks, and it is always entertaining.

St. Augustine Amphitheatre, An Insider's Guide to St. Augustine

St. Augustine Amphitheater

Lighthouse Park on Anastasia Island

This is not only the best music venue in town, it is one of the best in the country. The biggest names come through the Amp, of course, but they also feature a broad range of programming. From old bands to new bands in every genre, record shows, and the local farmers market, the Amp is at the heart of the new St. Augustine. They are also developing smaller venues on the property so they can have more intimate shows with smaller acts. They may be the only live music venue where the drinks are reasonably priced and stiff.

Insiders Tip: Buy the cheap tickets, and watch the show from the inside bar.

Words by Carmen Macri  For those of us who’ve witnessed Jacksonville’s evolution, it’s no secret how disheartening the transformation of Jacksonville Beach Pier has been.
