POWER UP: Opposition to Dredging
In months’ prior, those opposed to dredging the St. Johns River have noted that the economic projections of those in favor hinged mostly on speculative estimates. But, a storyin the Florida Times-Union on Saturday detailing a scaled back dredging plan developed quietly by JaxPort, gives those opposed to dredging even more ammunition. The scaled back plan, while presenting a smaller cost, includes a channel not dug deep enough for the mega ships JaxPort hoped to entice from Asia. If conducting a cost/benefit analysis, one can now note (or speculate) the project offers even smaller benefits to Northeast Florida.
