Theatre On a Mission is a student-driven service project. It began with one girl’s dream to meet and inspire a young orphan she sponsored in Kenya. She wanted to bring the joy of theatre to children who might never get the opportunity to experience it. She asked a few of her friends to help her take a theatre camp to that orphanage in Africa and Theatre on a Mission was born! TOM has taken two trips to Kenya. The team conducted a week-long theatre camp and incorporated the children at the Foundation Stone Ministry Orphanage into One Act plays that helped raise enough money from the surrounding Bondo community to get running water to the orphanage. The group traveled to two additional villages, and schools, teaching those students theatre games and more. They were also able to raise enough money to help with a down payment of land to build a school house, help repair a water well, and fund two weeks of free dialysis to the Kijiji dialysis clinic. We are excited to announce that in July 2015, we will be taking a new Theatre on a Mission team to Golfito, Costa Rica! Students from across the state of Florida are so excited to be taking theatre to the children of Golfito! For more information contact Shelley Cain at (904) 449-6019 or [email protected]
