In the late ’60s, when The Grateful Dead were mixing up their crackling blend of electric blues rock, feedback-drenched jams and full-tilt musique concrète explorations, keyboardist Tom Constanten was in the eye of their psychedelic hurricane. Trained as a classical pianist, in his early days Constanten studied under avant garde heavyweights like Luciano Berio and Karlheinz Stockhausen, and ultimately played on classic Dead albums including 1968’s Anthem of the Sun and 1969’s Aoxomoxoa and Live/Dead. At his upcoming performance, Constanten will play a solo set of Dead faves and other ’60s tunes.
