The Conquerors turned up the heat after a scoreless first half to cruise to a 34-7 victory at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando on Saturday, December 7th. Trinity used several long touchdown plays to score 27 unanswered points in the third quarter and break open what had been a defensive struggle.
Senior receiver Isaiah Ford started the onslaught with a 58-yard scoring scamper down the left sideline on the second play from scrimmage after halftime. As it had all season, Trinity’s defense dominated, forcing five CCC turnovers. One of those turnovers saw Deontai Williams pick up a fumble by Marauder quarterback Jeff Smith and sprint 63 yards for a touchdown and a 26 point Trinity lead.
The remainder of the game was basically a countdown to the postgame awards ceremony for the Conquerors. It was Trinity head coach Verlon Dorminey’s fourth state championship in his past 12 seasons at the Jacksonville school.
