Seniors on a Mission

Seniors on a Mission has huge community impact, too. Since 2005, more than 700 of elderly volunteers have joined their corps in which 375 continue to give back on a regular basis. They have logged more than 67,000 community service hours, which has saved local non-profit organizations nearly $1.5 million, as evidence that SoaM is a huge community benefit to many.

Why do they do it? They say because they are inspired, the work gives them purpose, they are encouraged, feel blessed and are loved. This work makes them happy – and they are capable of doing even more. Most of all, they feel needed because it is meaningful work that has a direct value to the community.

In return for the volunteer work, SoaM has an exciting annual event to say, “Thank You!” – The Filet Mignon Thank You Gala for Senior Saints. There are two corporate sponsorship levels – Gold at $14,000 and Silver at $7,000. This is a time when the Senior Saints and the non-profit leadership communities they serve get together as one.

Newly appointed Development Director Phyllis Andruszkiewicz, formerly of UNF’s Thomas G. Carpenter Library, says, “I always wanted to be involved with a ministry, and God has made that possible. This ministry is the best kept secret in Jacksonville, and we are working hard to get the word out.”

In 2011, Joanne was ordained at Beaches Chapel Church confirming her heartfelt personal purpose and mission of Seniors on a Mission. Dedicated to her cause, she understands the value of an older person feeling wanted, needed and valued. Her goal is to develop this into a national model and bring her Christian Seniors Ministry throughout the United States. And, she will, as her determination and passion for seniors continue to open the doors to success for the future.

In case you or your organization are looking to fund a project or fulfill a wish list for the holidays, SoaM needs a 33-passenger bus, team lunches, and office supplies as well as willing hands to volunteer for other office projects. For further information on how you, a family member, or your church can become involved, go to www.seniorsonamission.org or call either Joanne Hickox or Phyllis Andruszkiewicz at 904-551-4373.
