Verlon Thompson and Sue Cunningham Present Find Your Angel

An exciting new musical presentation is coming to The Mudville Music Room at 3104 Atlantic Blvd. as Ray Lewis presents Find Your Angel: Verlon Thompson and Sue Cunningham.
Travel down the Mississippi River and back in time on a musical journey with award winning musicians Verlon Thompson and Sue Cunningham in Find Your Angel! Find Your Angel: The Story Of Lorena is a riveting musical portrait about a courageous young woman from Vicksburg, Mississippi and her life before, during, and after the Civil War. Travel back to the deep south of the mid 1800’s as this privileged southern belle’s perfect life suddenly collides with the Siege of Vicksburg.
This poignant original story and all the songs were created through a collaborative effort by Verlon Thompson, Sue Cunningham, and Frank Serio. The three songwriters traveled back and forth between Nashville and Florida and this project is the result of two and a half years of work. Helping to set the tone for the performance of Find Your Angel, will be a display of framed, period-style photographs taken by Serio and Cunningham at the 150th Anniversary of Gettysburg Re-enactment in Gettysburg PA.
Find Your Angel is 60 minutes of sheer entertainment – evoking tears and smiles as these two award-winning musicians bring Lorena’s story to life. Find Your Angel is an historical narrative in original song which will delight both history buffs and acoustic music lovers alike. Verlon Thompson has been a professional songwriter and a traveling troubadour for over 30 years. As a solo performer and the performing partner and co-writer of Texas American songwriting icon Guy Clark, his compositions have been recorded by Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson, Anne Murray, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Kenny Rogers, Randy Travis, Del McCoury, Sam Bush, Trisha Yearwood, and many more. Equally important in his songwriting and live performances, Verlon’s guitar proficiency has not gone unnoticed – his guitar can be heard on recordings by Restless Heart, Pam Tillis, and many more, including and especially Guy Clark.
Sue Cunningham was raised in a musical family and has been involved with music since she was five years old. Sue is a three-time Florida fiddle champion and is a much sought after studio musician. Through her performances and recordings with the international touring band Hickory Project, and the Rowan Cunningham Band, Sue has gained national recognition as a fiddler and fiddle instructor. Sue performed many shows with the late great Vassar Clements and their twin fiddles delighted audiences at festivals, concerts, and workshops around the country. In addition to her musical pursuits, Sue is a practicing engineer and holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
Frank Serio is a professional photographer and has amassed a large collection of exceptional photographs from the many festivals and shows he has worked for in his 20 years in the business. His work has been published in a variety of magazines, appeared on websites, and used as CD artwork. He has co-written a number of prior songs with both Verlon and Sue.
Find Your Angel features Verlon on guitar and narration, and Sue on fiddle, with lead vocals and harmony singing from both. This brand new, unique musical performance brings Lorena’s spellbinding story to life! Find Your Angel begins at 7:30pm on Friday, December 6. Mudville Music Room is located at 3104 Atlantic Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida. For tickets and reservations, contact Ray Lewis at 904-352-7008 or [email protected]
