Brickbats to Jacksonville City Councilman Reggie Brown for introducing a bill that would strip the Jacksonville Children’s Commission of its power to hire and fire its top leader and give that power to the mayor. The move came as the Commission was interviewing three finalists for a new executive director. Mayor Alvin Brown issued a June 14 statement saying he was opposed to the change. “The Commission should retain the independent power to select its own staff leader.”
