On Sunday, 4/12 at 8 p.m. New Orleans-based band Prom Date will fill Burro Bar with their upbeat pop-synth style, along with Brazos the Rat, Honey Chamber, Shoni and Bunny Dull.
Composed of band mates James West, Brett Burke, Christine Peirce, David Fuller, Nick Boudreau and Steven Landry, Prom Date is excited to hit the road for the first time as they release their first full-length album, “Portraits.”
“Portraits” is full of songs that its members wrote before Prom Date was founded in 2012. Featuring “emotional snapshots,” the album deals a great deal with relationships in every stage, but uphold the group’s upbeat style, West said.
“A few of the songs are darker lyrically, but that doesn’t mean we keep the [beats per minute] down,” West said.
Their style takes cues from influences like Human League, Cut Copy, Phoenix, Passion Pit and Robyn, to name a few, and is always dance-able.
Listening to Prom Date’s set and to their upcoming album, West said he hopes people will relate to their lyrics and enjoy the approachability of their sound.
“However you enjoy the music, just take the ride with us,” he said.
