Brickbats to the Clay County School Board for not voting on whether Superintendent Charlie Van Zant Jr. should receive an annual salary adjustment of $29,000. The board violated its own procedure of voting each year regarding the superintendent’s increase. Former Superintendent Ann Wiggins said the money could have been better spent on Clay County’s only “D” school, Grove Park Elementary. The boost will jump Van Zant’s annual salary to about $151,560.
