Romantic comedies are usually filled with lifeless humor that exploits the extremities of love lost or found. Jumping the Broom is a romantic comedy, but its humorous moments are far from lifeless. An all-star cast of seasoned actors boosts this film’s credibility and interest factor as it aims to address real life stereotypical and familial issues.
The movie opens with a hopeless bombshell pining for love. After she makes a religious vow to stop sharing her cookies with undeserving honks, she is stricken by love when she literally runs into her prince charming. A few, short months later, a speedy wedding is planned and shattering secrets are revealed as the two families clash over loyalty and tradition. The pending nuptials are tested as the bride and groom are forced to choose sides. In the midst of the turmoil, they begin to question their feelings for each other and the mystery of reconciliation versus destruction is heightened.
This comedic love story will have you laughing (and crying) from beginning to end and will undoubtedly confirm a hopeless romantic’s belief in fairytales.
