The Jacksonville Music Video Revival is alive and well and looking for new material. In case you missed it the first two rounds have showcased both old and new videos of Jacksonville bands. The event is a great way to experience some of the very best that Jacksonville has to offer in both music and video production in a way that you won’t find anywhere else. It is also the perfect opportunity to show off your video skills or get some exposure for your band.
During the recent 2010 Jacksonville Film Festival, EU along with Stay Tuned Studios screened five of the best videos from both events and awarded L Gustavo Cooper the Emerging Director Award for his work on the Dark Horse Saloon video, ‘Strangers.’ Who knows, the next emerging director could be you!
The next round is right around the corner, scheduled for February 4th to be held once again at the 5 Points Theatre during First Fridays. Several filmmakers will be returning with all new material but we are always seeking new talent so get busy making those videos. The deadline for submissions will be January 15th and videos will be accepted in .mov format at The Letter Shop downtown at 228 E Forsyth, one block east of the Florida Theatre.
If you missed either of the first two events be sure to drop by the MOCA Jacksonville Theater during the first Art Walk of the year on January 5th. We’ll be screening all the videos we’ve received thus far so don’t miss your last chance to see original local music videos on the big screen. –

Avril Lavigne: The Punk Rock Princess

By Teresa Spencer In 2002, a teenage girl from small-town Ontario burst onto the scene with a skateboard under one arm, a tie around her neck, and a snarl that said, I’m not like the other girls. Her name was Avril Lavigne, and Let Go, her multi-platinum debut album, kicked

Nancy Wilson: Still Rocking, Still Writing, Still Raising Hell

Loud, Fast and Lifted: Lifted Riffs

Words by Carmen Macri  “It wasn’t always the dream, you know, I didn’t always want to be a punk or a rockstar, it’s just something that kind of happened through life.”  Jacksonville’s music scene might seem like a thing of the past — if you’re not paying attention.
