All month long, area schools, churches and dance groups will be providing live holiday entertainment to shoppers and spectators at the Jacksonville Landing downtown
as part of the 2010 Holiday on the River Concert Series. The series runs nearly every day until the 23rd. • Local bands of all stripes are coming together this month to celebrate the life of Carly Driscoll and to raise funds in her name to help fight cancer. The Jacksonville teen was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancer of the soft tissue, and passed away in September after nearly two-year battle with the disease. Two separate benefit shows will take place this month with proceeds benefiting St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. First on December 10th Rebels & Rouges, Kids Like Us, Round For Round, Set Apart, Legacies and Vices will perform at Wambolt Unit 6B. Then on the 11th In Due Time, Our Finest Hour, The Red Baron and With Blood Comes Cleansing will all reunite for a second fundraiser at the Murray Hill Theatre. Be sure to come out for one or both of these terrific shows and honor Carly’s memory. • Lady Daisey and Batsauce are back in town this month and will be reuniting with Paten Locke to perform as The Smile Rays at Lomax Lodge on December 17th. Daisey and Batsauce will be headed back across the pond soon so take advantage of this rare opportunity to see this terrific hip hop trio live. • Finally, electro pop duo Sunbears! is seeking the help of fans to get their next record made. The band recently created a Kickstarter page to raise funds for the project. Their goal is to collect $8000 by January 21st and are offering cool incentives to those who donate including advanced copies of the record, merch, free admission for life to any of their shows, instruments and even a live concert for you at the venue of your choosing. underbelly

The ultra-cool Five Points clothing store, Anomaly, is also home to Underbelly, one of the most unique concert venues in town. Past the racks of hip apparel and stunning accessories is a door that, in any other shop, would be a store room. But at Anomaly what lies beyond is a cozy wine bar with chic seating and local art adorning the walls. Underbelly’s backyard is where, on any given night, you can catch incredible local and touring acts under a canopy of twinkling lights strung from the trees. There’s a homey atmosphere at this little secret hideaway that you can’t find anywhere else which makes it a must-visit stop during your next visit to Five Points. Underbelly serves beer, wine and sangria and you can often find tasty snacks from nearby eateries atop the tables in the courtyard to sample as you take in the show. For more information visit the venue’s website.
