Local musicians are often relegated to smoky clubs and sketchy bars but on September 1st the Florida Theatre will give a handful of these neglected artists the opportunity to perform on their grand stage. Uncommon Music… For A Common Cause is in its fourth year and is one event that those who support local music should plan on attending.
This year, Uncommon Music has three diverse and remarkably talented acts on the schedule. First up is the John Earle Band, a three-piece from Jax Beach who play original pop and R&B songs, as well as Top 40 hits and Motown classics. Next up is Jordyn Jackson, a young jazz artist who pulls inspiration from the soulful sounds of New Orleans. Last, but not least, are the Dundies, a folk-rock combo that’s often compared to Arcade Fire and the Decemberists.
In addition to supporting the hardworking local artists, Uncommon Music does something else too: it gives back. Proceeds from this event will benefit Art with a Heart in Healthcare, a nonprofit organization that provides professionally guided, personalized art experiences that enhance the healing process and bring comfort, joy and hope to patients and families in crisis. Tickets to Uncommon Music are just $10 but if you can’t attend you can still make a donation through www.wegive.org. For more information, visit www.floridatheatre.com.
