pops at the beach

Ahh, Mother’s Day. It’s a time to show some love to the woman who carried you for nine long months, put a roof over your head for the next 18 years and taught you to always leave the house wearing clean underwear in case of a car accident. Now, given the enormity of the role she had in your life, do you really want to honor Mom with a mere card and a hug? No, my friend, no you do not. Therefore, we insist you put on a clean shirt (in addition to the underwear), grab a couple lawn chairs and surprise the lovely woman who gave you life with a concert under the stars.
Each year the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra puts together Pops at the Beach, a special Mother’s Day concert at the Sea Walk Pavilion. This year’s program will feature songs from West Side Story, Scent of a Woman, The Wizard of Oz, Phantom of the Opera and many more. In addition to the JSO’s always stellar performance, the Jacksonville Mass Choir will join the fun with To Michael with Love- The Songs of Michael Jackson.
The event is May 9th and starts at 5:45, with the Jacksonville Mass Choir serving as the opening act. Soft drinks, wine and beer, food and dessert will be available for purchase. As always, you can treat Mom to this very special event for free, so you’ll have some extra cash in your wallet to get her some flowers. For more information call 354-5479 or visit www.jacksonvillebeach.org.
