The special sound effects (by John Renaud) and lighting design by Kenneth Uibel added to the fun. The only thing that bothered me was the opening scene, where we see lighting and a raging storm through the window, but everyone who enters the lodge is bone dry. A bit of water sprinkled on an umbrella might have made this a bit more realistic. Oh, well than again this is a farce.
Shue’s The Foreigner has remained extremely popular since it debuted in the l980s.Why? It has great characters, great plot, with never a dull moment, and lots of laughs. You could not ask for anything more.
If you have read our previous reviews of the new Alhambra, you will recall we have commented on the food in the past. The EU Jacksonville Food Editor and gastronomic guru Erin Thursby is writing a companion piece to this review covering the food selections and the revamping of the theatre.
Of further interest, the theatre has added extensive, beautiful landscaping to their outdoor courtyard. The lions in the fountain are now coated with bronze, and the space is filled with flowers and palms, creating a picturesque space for snapping a few pictures of your visit, as well as a perfect outdoor event space for weddings and other celebrations.
This wild and crazy Foreigner will be on stage until June 13th. The ever popular Cinderella will open on June l6th. Look for it on our website. To buy tickets, call 641-1212 or visit www.alhambrajax.com.
