Will Ferrell – EVERYTHING MUST GO 7:30 pm

We asked our staff music-lovers to give us the skinny on what local bands they love, where they go to see a show and their take on the Jacksonville music scene. Here’s what they had to say:

kellie abrahamson (Fleming Island) Music Editor
Favorite local bands:
1. Sunbears!
2. Shangrala
3. Chicken & Whiskey
Favorite place to see live music: Anywhere with a sound system, I’m not picky.
Jacksonville’s local music scene is… made up of incredibly talented musicians willing to share their art even when few people are willing to take the time to listen. I’m amazed every time I go to a show at how good we have it here. The area breeds some of the most interesting and entertaining musical acts around and yet only a handful of people are aware of them. I’d love to see more people nurturing the scene by coming to shows and spreading the word.

jack diablo (Springfield) Contributing Writer / Local Music Guru
Favorite local bands:
1. Tough Junkie
2. Wudun
3. Tuffy
Favorite place to see live music: Good old fashioned Riverside house show.
Jacksonville’s local music scene is… talented above all else but the bands don’t seem to get the credit or attention they deserve. A lot of people are trying to change that lately and I see a bright future over the horizon. It’s all for nothing though if bands have to go elsewhere to get the recognition they work so hard for. The bottom line is, if you want to see the music scene improve, you have to go out and support the bands that are playing out.

ora “tre” brasel (Orange Park) Contributing Writer
Favorite local bands:
1. Fit For Rivals
2. Marion Crane
3. Jug-or-Not
Favorite place to see live music: Orange Park Lion’s Club
Jacksonville’s local music scene is… looking very promising with all of the hot, fresh new talent that has emerged on our scene in the last few years, along with all of the local legends have kept it going strong. There are truly so many great bands floating around town these days that we could all soon be witnessing a musical renaissance right here in our own city. If you go out looking for excellent music around town the chances are extremely high that you will find just that!

kali mclevy (St. Augustine) Contributing Writer
Favorite local bands:
1. Buff Clout
2. Chicken and Whiskey
3. Antarctic
Favorite place to see live music: Nobby’s
Jacksonville’s local music scene is… a blast and absolutely made for the entertainment of friends and fans. Music at its best is when people come together to entertain themselves and dear friends, not with the goal of making the cheesiest song possible so it’ll be played in clubs and on the radio. I think that it’s admirable for a band to want to play a show just for the sake of music and fun, not because their manager booked it for them. Most of the bands I’ve seen lately out of Jacksonville don’t even go into it thinking of fame or fortune.

rick grant (Southside) Senior Writer
Favorite local bands:
1. Derek Trucks Band
2. Susan Tedeschi Band
3. Artimus Pyle Band (APB)
Favorite place to see live music: I would have to say that my favorite live venue is the Seawalk Pavilion during the Blues Festival.
Jacksonville’s local music scene is… vibrant and in constant flux.

brenton crozier (Riverside) Contributing Writer / Columnist
Favorite local bands:
1. When Tides Collide
2. Shangrala
3. Sunbears!
Favorite place to see live music: Hmmm…depends on my mood. For the authentic rock in the wall experience, I like Jack Rabbits for its accessibility.
Jacksonville’s local music scene is… ever burgeoning but slightly erratic.
