ZOMBIELAND It seems zombies are everywhere this time of year. In addition to the new movie, Zombieland, which was filmed at nearby Wild Adventures theme park and currently in theatres, you can join the local undead and even become a certified zombie in the following activities.
Zombie Walk! October 11 is World Zombie Day 2009, a day when all fans of zombie culture can join together, the undead….feeding the hungry. There will be an international charity event done throughout the cities involved to help alleviate world hunger. World Zombie Day Jacksonville will benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank so bring a non-perishable food or personal hygene item. Contests and prizes plus the Tri County Rolling Militia will tag along with the undead. 1 – 4 pm. Begins at Twisted Martini in the Jacksonville Landing, 2 Independent Dr.
Thrill The World 2009: Jacksonville Local zombies will join the world in a simultaneous dance of ‘Thriller’ on October 24 from 7:30-9:30 pm in the lobby of the Aetna Building in downtown Jacksonville. This celebration of Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ is sponsored by A Social Affair Dance Studios, Inc. and will raise money for the Second Harvest Food Bank. Thrill The World 2009: Jacksonville will feature food, cash bar, a film screening of ‘Thriller,’ and a live performance by A Social Affair dance instructors. At 8:30 pm, the Jacksonville zombie crew will slither and slide across a pseudo cemetery floor along with other Thrill The World zombies worldwide! Admission is free to Certified Zombies (see below) and $10 plus two cans of food for non-dancing zombie supporters at the door. Zombie Certification Get “zombie certified” by attending at least one zombie workshop provided by professional instructors from A Social Affair dance studio, 9850 San Jose Blvd. Pre-registration required at http://ttw09jax.wordpress.com. Cost $10 for workshop with certificate awarded upon completion that will be your ticket to the Oct. 24 event. Workshop dates are Oct 3, 10, 3-6 pm.
