George's Music Holding Contest for Local Rock and Blues Bands

George’s Music is holding a contest for local blues and rock bands, with the winner earning a slot in the lineup of the upcoming Springing the Blues Music Festival. The winning band will be selected on March 23, and will perform on Saturday, April 4, on the festival’s west stage.
It’s easy to enter. Bands just need to:
1. Sign up by March 14 at one of the George’s Music Stores in Jacksonville. Store locations are: 912 South Third St. in Jacksonville Beach, and 8151 Blanding Boulevard in Orange Park (just north of I-295).
2. Submit an entry form (available at the stores) along with a demo CD or performance DVD, and any promotional materials or information such as flyers, website address, Facebook or MySpace page, performance schedule and contact information.
This is the third year that George’s Music has held the contest, giving local bands an opportunity to play at the festival, gain some recognition and atract new fans. Last year, guitarist Tony Smotherman was named winner and, in the inaugural year of the contest, blues prodigy Conrad Oberg was selected.
George’s Music is the title sponsor of the Springing the Blues Music Festival, now in its 19th year. The free, outdoor music festival held at the OceanWalk Pavilion in Jacksonville Beach, features mix of legendary blue artists along with up and comers. Held every year on the first weekend in April, George’s Music Springing the Blues Festival has become the signature event at Jacksonville Beach. The festival also includes family activities for including the AquaEast Surfing the Blues Contest with $5,000 in prizes, Performance Running the Blues 5K run and 2.5K walk, and Tour de Vilano Metric Century. All outerfest activities will be held Saturday, April 4.
