Singer, songwriter and guitarist Keller Williams is quite literally a one-man jam band. Thanks to a looping unit, Keller is able to rock out solo on stage, playing every instrument himself and flooring audiences with a unique, full sound that you would never believe could come from one man.
A Fredericksburg, Virginia native, Keller began playing guitar in his early teens and began playing live shows around town during high school. In 1994 he released his debut album Freek. It ended up being the first of many. Soon after getting signed to SCI Fidelity (the String Cheese Incident’s label), Williams began releasing nearly an album a year, each with one word titles, each better than the last. His latest, a live album called Rex, was recorded at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver and is a collaborative performance featuring Williams, Keith Moseley (of the String Cheese Incident) and Jeff Austin (of Yonder Mountain String Band) performing bluegrass versions of Grateful Dead songs. The album is available only as a digital download, with proceeds benefitting the Rex Foundation, which provides support to creative endeavors in the arts, sciences and education.
Keller Williams will be on his own when he comes to the Freebird on the 25th and that’s probably the best way to truly experience his incredible musical talents. Tickets to the show are a paltry $20, a small price to pay to see someone as innovative as this artist. For more information or to purchase your tickets, call 246-BIRD.
