If you’re planning on staying close to home this Halloween, here are the area’s haunted hotspots:


Adventure Landing’s Hall of Terror and Haunted River Ride

1944 Beach Blvd (Jacksonville Beach), 246-4286
October 10-November 1 (select dates), beginning at 7 pm



     
This Jax favorite has a little something for everyone. Get freaked out in the always spooky Hall of Terror or the brand new Haunted River Ride at Shipwreck Island. Meanwhile, little guys will enjoy the not-so-scary fun of the HalloWEE Zone. Admission: $10/per attraction, $16/combo ticket for both


Evergreen Cemetery: Tales of Our City Tours
4535 N. Main St, 733-8352
October 18 & 19, 9 am to 3 pm



     
Now in its 10th year, the Tales of Our City cemetery tour is a fun way to get to know Jacksonville’s past residents. Tour guides and dramatist will bring to life stories about the lives of some of the interesting Jacksonville residents buried in the historic graveyard. This creepy-but-fascinating annual event is not to be missed. Donations: $10/advance, $12/at the gate, $4/children under 12


Jacksonville Zoo’s 21st Annual Spooktacular
370 Zoo Pkwy, 757-4462
October 24-November 1 (select dates), 6:30 pm to 9 pm



     
This kid-favorite is sure to be a hit with the whole family. The Zoo’s annual Halloween celebration includes a trip to the Enchanted Forest, live entertainment, food, bounce houses and more. As always, expect a ton of cool carved pumpkins and plenty of trick-or-treating opportunities. Admission: $9


Rockey Horror Picture Show
Florida Theatre (Downtown), 355-2787
October 24, midnight (doors open at 11 pm, street fest starts at 8 pm)


     
A cult movie classic where participants are encouraged to dress as their favorite character. Expect things to get messy, but always fun. Leave the kids at home. (See ad on page 21 for more info)


Dark Art Celebration
Seawalk Hotel- 117 1st St. (Jacksonville Beach), 249-9981
October 25, 7pm to 2 am



     
Make new art your treat this Halloween. Head down to the Seawalk Hotel for the annual Dark Art Celebration, where over 40 artists will have work on display and for sale. As always, the entire event will be set to the sounds of live bands and DJs. Dark and sexy costumes are highly recommended. Admission: $5/ages 21 and up, $7/under 21
