Nuanced & Unfliching THE CALL offers a peek inside the complex emotions and realities of adoption


The New York Times described this play as “deft as it considers how life, death and disease are experienced in countries belonging to the first and third worlds.” The Call is about a white American couple who are longing for a child, and how the  decision to adopt an African child highlights cultural divides and assumptions.

The play is staged 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25; 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26 and 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27 at The 5 & Dime, a Theatre Company, 112 E. Adams St., Downtown, $17, 637-5100, the5anddime.org.
