Maybe it was the pitchers of Blue Moon at the San Marco Theatre that left me pleased, but I enjoyed the flick and feel it was money and time well-spent. Sure it swung a missed a time or two, but I wasn't prepared for a masterpiece, either.
Pretty much agree with your reviewer - the first part was sad in many places. The best part of the movie was watching Melissa McCarthy's immediate transformation from a horrible person to pathetic to vulnerable. Some of the slapstick was kind of funny, and several scenes in the 2nd half were very funny - at least no one died in this entire movie. That entire hotel scene could have been omitted. I was wishing we'd gone to see "Quartet" - our original plan. Next time.
