National Public Lands Day Air Potato Round Up
Ravine Gardens State Park will host an Air Potato Removal Work Day in honor of National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 from 9–11 a.m.
Air Potato removal is an important resource management project assisting in the control of the air potato vine (Dioscorea Bulbifera) that is widespread in the park. Air Potato is a nonnative plant quickly sprouting vines that eventually smother native plants if the potatoes aren’t exterminated. Participants are invited to assist in removing air potatoes and vines from the Park so that together we can maintain our gardens’ natural beauty.
Prizes will be given for the largest potato, smallest potato and the most unusually shaped potato. Participants will also receive a free Florida State Park one day pass valid for entry to any Florida State Park. Gloves, trash bags and tools will be provided.
RSVPs are not required but are appreciated. To RSVP or for more information please contact the park at (386) 329-3721 or email Lauren.Swanson@dep.state.fl.us.
