Lari Gibbons' 'Traces' Lecture and Reception

About 40 people attended the May 23 reception and lecture on artist Lari Gibbons' recent work, "Traces," which was hosted by Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville. The night began at 6 p.m. as UNF students, aspiring artists, art enthusiasts and Jacksonville locals filed in to browse "Traces" and enjoy complimentary drinks and hors d'oeuvres. At 7 p.m., Gibbons began her lecture, discussing "Traces," its relation to her interest in how humans leave their traces on the environment, her other artwork and a little bit about her personal life. Gibbons' work was beautiful and inspiring as much art is but had a depth I hadn't anticipated: environmental awareness and an extremely hands-on, scientific approach to her art and research.
